Returning to Play: Safety Protocols for the COViD-19 Era

With the state's re-opening plan underway, some cities have begun to reduce their restrictions regarding city park usage by their communities. We posted about these new city & county orders in our previous blog, COViD-19 Update: New orders announced, last Sunday. The City of Folsom on Friday May 1st announced it will be opening its parks and their amenities to their communities for use per the new order, and on Saturday May 2nd the city reinstalled the nets on the sand volleyball courts at Livermore Park. But, the city's order has its limits with regard to sport groups/programs using parks: "No structured or organized practices, games, trainings, coaching, or team/league sports groups are permitted".

As we await the update from the cities, counties, and institutions on park usage for team sport programs such as ours, SPF has been preparing to run our program safely in the COViD-19 era. Here are some of the safety protocols SPF will be implementing when cities, counties, and institutions begin to lift their restrictions on their facilities and allow sports programs to utilize them:

  • Session/Event attendances will be limited.
  • Social distancing is required of all athletes and spectators (unless same household).
  • Athletes will be assigned to a specific court to avoid any unnecessary congestion.
  • Online or electronic registrations are required to limit any unnecessary contacts.
  • We recommend all athletes carry or have access to hand sanitizer.
  • We recommend all athletes bring water to avoid crowding at drinking fountains.
  • We recommend all athletes practice sanitary habits when utilizing any public restrooms at a session/event.
  • We ask all athletes to evaluate their health & wellness prior to attending any session/event.
  • All equipment will be disinfected prior to each session/event.

Please remember, these protocols are subject to changes and updates as additional requirements and more information are provided by cities, counties, and other institutions. Any deliberate failure to comply with these safety protocols may result in your immediate dismissal from the session/event.
